Jennifer Poplar, LMSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified School Social Worker. I studied at Grand Valley State University where I received my Masters in Social Work. I earned my BA at Western Michigan University in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. I have been in the field of Social Work since 2011.
Prior to being a therapist, I gained valuable experience in working with children and families as an elementary school teacher in the classroom for 8 years. I still work with children as a school counselor and social worker. My experience with helping a diverse population of students and families has given me a unique perspective as a therapist. I have a good understanding of how behaviors can affect families and children in the school system, as well as at home.
I believe that knowledge is power. Change can happen when people are given the time and space to learn and process whatever life circumstances are challenging them. It is from there that they can take action. Your sessions will be guided by your personal story and input, along with my background in family systems and educational techniques.
My areas of expertise are with Children and Adolescents, Play Therapy, Adoption, ADHD, Social and Emotional Development, Behavioral Difficulties, Grief and Loss, School Related Problems, Early Childhood Trauma, Family Relationships, Attachment, Maternal Health and Reproductive Stressors (i.e., post-partum depression, miscarriage, fertility difficulties).
My treatment approaches are Reality, Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, and Person Centered Therapy.
“It’s a privilege to be able to bear witness to someone’s story when they may not have had the chance to tell it before.”
